 The Residency is a two-year leadership development program for
emerging leaders who feel called to vocational church ministry.
 

THE RESIDENCY

The Journey Bible Residency is a two-year, full-time leadership training program designed to give hands-on experience working with one of the staff teams of the church, personal mentoring and leadership training to equip emerging church leaders for a lifetime of ministry significance.

Learn vital leadership skills from people through ministry experiences, training, conferences, and so much more.

MINISTRY

DEVELOPMENT

Receive practical, hands-on, on-the-ground ministry experience that is essential to serve in the local church.

SPIRITUAL

Grow in developing your heart for Christ, resting in Him, relying on Him, and keeping your focus on Jesus in the day-to-day.

THE EXPERIENCE

  • A 2-year program at Journey Bible Church in Olathe, Kansas

  • 20-25 hours per week of practical ministry experience within the resident’s area of focus

  • 2-3 hours per week in developmental instruction

  • 15 hours per week of academic work through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

  • Half-time salary - $1300/month.

  • Host home provided

The Journey Bible Residency Program is an opportunity that brings together leadership training, practical ministry experience, and a graduate level academic program. Residents choose an area of focused ministry and work with a coach to hone their specific callings, gifts, and passions.

THE DEVELOPMENT

  • Up-front communication (preaching, teaching, etc.)

  • General pastoral duties (weddings, funerals, etc.)

  • Pastoral counseling

  • Creating a volunteer culture (recruiting, training, retaining)

  • Evangelism

  • Specialized ministry competencies (according to areas of focus)

MINISTRY

  • Mission/vision and creating/casting

  • Strategic planning

  • Goal setting

  • Building/leading teams

  • Creating a reproducing/sending leadership culture

LEADERSHIP

  • Spiritual (personal discipleship, spiritual disciplines, etc.)

  • Emotional (emotional health, personal boundaries/margin/time management, "EQ," etc.)

  • Relational (interpersonal relationships, family background, accountability/mentoring, etc)

  • Financial (personal budget, giving/saving, retirement/long-term planning, clergy tax issues)

  • Team dynamics and conflict resolution

  • Interoffice communication

  • Church marketing and social media

  • Preparing and overseeing a budget
